If you need to send reminders on a specific date or perhaps you want always to keep fresh data from your subscribers, then we've got you covered! You can find contacts based on exactly how much time has passed since the last time they did something.
- First, create a custom date field.
- The filed must be of type date. It can be a birthday or a service date, or a date when your contacts registered to your company.
- Your contacts should have populated date fields i.e. they should have their birthdays/other dates already added.
- Add a new smart segment.
- If the name of the field is 'Birthday', on search, you'll see two fields appear: Birthday and Age (from Birthday). This Age (from fieldName) is a new field and will appear for all date fields.
- Choosing just 'Birthday' will get comparators such as is equal to, is before, is after, etc.
But if you choose Age, then you will be able to use the time passed from this specific date. Here we have a few comparators:- Up to turning - will show all contacts to and including the number you add this year.
Example: If you add Age (from Birthday) ➝ up to turning 25 this year, the segment will return all contacts that turned 25 before and including contacts that will turn 25 this year. So in other words, if you have contacts in your list with Age from let's say, 18 to 50, this segment will list only contacts from 18 to 25. This segment count including and backward from the number you add. - From turning - will show all contacts that will turn the number you add this year.
Example: If you add Age (from Birthday) ➝ from turning 25 this year, the segment will return all contacts that will turn 25 this year and older. So the contact must be at least 24 years (turning 25 this year) so the segment could return it. If the contact is less than 24 it will not be listed. If the contact is 50 it will be returned, because it turned 25 at some point in the past and we say "give me all contacts from turning 25 and onwards". When using 'from turning' keep in mind that the segment counts forward from the number you add.
The difference between 'Up to turning' and 'From tuning' is that the 'Up to tuning' always counts before the number you add with including your number, and 'From turning' is counting after the number you add with including your number. - Turning - will show all contacts that are turning the number you add this year.
Example: If you add Age (from Birthday) ➝ turning 25 this year, the segment will return all contacts that have turned or are turning 25 this year. - Is equal to - will show all contacts that have equal years to the number you add.
- Is greater than - will show all contacts that have a greater number of years than the one you added.
- Is less than - will show all contacts that have a lesser number of years than the one you added.
- Up to turning - will show all contacts to and including the number you add this year.
You can of course do this with other date fields, not just birthday. Find out when is the anniversary of their registration date. Or when is their next car service. Or any other date that seems relevant. Just use this smart segment to make sure you never miss a date that's important to your contacts 💕
