Segmentation is all about defining and better understanding your targeted audiences.
If you are a marketeer, segmentation is a crucial part that will help you to customize your content for different audience groups!
In this article, I'll break down all segmentation options and throw a few examples here and there on how to use them!😁
Contact segmentation is the method of separating or grouping your contacts based on certain factors that you can arrange. Think of it like this - we most likely don't communicate the same way with our coworkers, family and family. Different social groups require different communication. So it's the same with customers!
Our main segments are actually segment groups. For example, let's say that you want to group your customers based on their interests. Your segment group name would be 'Interests,' and as values, you can add Golf, Basketball, Tennis, and Football.
This type of segmentation will help you filter similar contacts, but more importantly, it lets you divide them but under one group.
And there are plenty of ways that you can add your contacts directly to your main segments, here check out the 'Ways to segment your contacts' article!
The smart segments however are more detailed, and here you can segment contacts by adding conditions to filter contacts based on information that's available. You can make them as smart as you like!
For example, you need a segment with contacts that have email consent, are interested in Golf, and their email doesn't contain @sportify.com. You can add these conditions and the segment will list the contacts that fulfill your added conditions!
And this example is just the tip of the iceberg of what our smart segments can do! You can filter only the contacts that clicked on a specific link or list only the contacts that unsubscribed so you can easily clean up your contact list! Here is a list of some smart segment examples, it's pretty legit! You can also try and create some of your own - they are pretty self-explanatory!
Divide and conquer, my friends! Especially now, when you know the difference between main and smart segments, your contact list will shine!🤩
Yes, there is more to segmentation!
Content segmentation is also known as content personalization, and it's a crucial part of marketing. The process of designing, writing, and organizing the content for each contact is called content segmentation.
This means that the content becomes dynamic, and will it change based on who is supposed to see what. Of course, depending on your type of business, you can segment the content based on different factors.
Let's say you segmented your contacts based on their interests in sports. However, you want all of your contacts to receive an email, but the content to be personalized for each contact based on the sport they like. Well, you can do that right from the email modules from the 'Segment this module' option where you can choose an existing segment or create one right from the email app! And then simply add different personalized modules for each segment. You can also prioritize the segment and add content for other contacts that are not included in the segments!
Of course, if you need more guidance for this type of segmentation I strongly suggest starting with basic segmentation, then priority segmentation and finally test your segmented content, and once you are confident click the send button!
But the best part of Loopify is that you don't need to create different emails or different pages for every contact to make it personal! Create one email and segment the content inside, and it will change for every contact! This way you save time, plus your contacts will be engaged!
By the way, I'm not finished with my teachings for segmentation! But I'll give you some time to warm up a bit on how our segmentation works, and once you need an upgrade find me in the How to segment the contacts based on content interaction? article. ✌
