As you can probably guess by its name, the Switch contact would swap the contact that arrived here and the Flow journey will be continued by a different contact or contacts.
Basically, when you click 'Create mapping" you say "switch this field with the value of this field".
One of the most common uses of this block is in a 'Recruit a friend' Flow campaign, which can be a little advanced by we got you covered.
Example of a 'Recruit a friend' Flow
Before starting, we first recommend creating custom contact fields like <Invited by ContactID> (or email/ mobile) and <Last invited name>.
Tip: you can right-click and open image in new tab for a better resolution.
This is how the Flow setup looks:
Basically, goes like this:
-
- The original contact receives the email
- The original contact clicks the button in the email, which has a 'link to an email' (setup below) that opens an email draft:
- This button will open a draft which will send an email and they get the message with a link to a Loopify sign up page.
- The friend fulfills the sign up page and submits it (including a hidden text field mapped to 'Invited by ContactID'):
- On submit, the friend is added to a separate Flow via "Add to campaign" where you can build a whole new journey for them (for example, "Welcome new users!")
- The friend also arrives at the "Switch" block where it's switched with the original contact. In the mapping, we say "the field of the friend Invited by ContactID should be mapped/switched to Loopify ContactID". We say this because in the friend-contact, they have the original LoopifyID under "Invited by ContactID" so we swap their values. We also say "switch name to last friend that accepted your invitation". This means we switch/add the name of the last invited friend, so the original can know which friend registered last:
6.1 At the original contact, you can always check who is the last invited friend by checking the field with the same name. - The original contact then receives one last informative email which says "your friend has registered".
As tricky as it may sound, the goal of this campaign with just a few blocks and a setup done only once is to let you know that your friend has successfully registered. You don't just send your invitation and hope for the best - you'll actually receive an email every time one of your friends signs up for the event you invited them. Awesome!
If this is something you can use but struggle with the set up, drop us an email at success@loopify.com.
